Since its inception, the Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival has attracted the most outstanding and best artists of Baroque opera to Bayreuth every year. 2024

Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival 2024

The new production of Porpora's Ifigenia in Aulide was presented in the Bayreuth Baroque 2024 season (5-15.9.2024). Orlando Furioso (Vivaldi) was the second production at the Margravial Opera House. Nuria Rial, Sandrine Piau, Lucile Richardot and Terry Wey performed in the Ordenskirche St. Georgen and the Schlosskirche respectively. Christophe Rousset gave two intimate solo concerts on the harpsichord in the Hermitage's Temple of the Sun. Jakub Joszef Orlinski had to cancel his concert at short notice, but Bruno de Sà stepped in brilliantly. Anna Prohaska also had to cancel, but Max Emanuel Cencic provided a great evening with Senesino.

2023

Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival 2023

The 2023 edition of the Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival took place from September 7th to 17th, 2023. In addition to the two staged operas, Flavio, Re de' Longobardi by Georg Friedrich Händel (in a new production) and L'Orfeo by Claudio Monteverdi, visitors could enjoy performances by artists Bruno de Sá, Dennis Orellana, Daniel Behle, Valer Sabadus, Reginald Mobley, Véronique Gens, and Maayan Licht.

2022

Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival 2022

In 2022, the festival captivated audiences with a new production of Alessandro nell'India by Leonardo Vinci, Opera in Concert performances of Il nascimento dell'Aurora (Tomaso Albinoni) and Griselda (Giovanni Bononcini), as well as the celebration of Max Emanuel Cencic's 40th stage anniversary. Artists such as Ars Antiqua Austria, Jeanine de Bique, Ensemble Diderot, Johanna Rosa Falkinger, Marie Theoleyre, Sonja Runje, Ryö Terakado, Tomáš Král, Emmanuelle de Negri, Bruno de Sá, Trio Grazioso, and Julia Lezhneva made the festival once again a unique experience.

2021

Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival 2021

In 2021, the Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival was able to take place in its full scope. The acclaimed 2020 production of Carlo il Calvo was performed once more. Additional highlights included the oratorio Judas Maccabaeus by Georg Friedrich Händel and the Opera in Concert performance of Polifemo by Nicola Antonio Porpora. Unique artists such as Dorothee Oberlinger, Simone Kermes, Maddalena del Gobbo, Martyna Pastuszka, Jakub Józef Orliński, and Franco Fagioli impressively rounded off the program.

2020

Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival 2020

Despite the challenging circumstances in 2020, the Bayreuth Baroque Season 2020 opened on September 3rd. Thanks to a comprehensive health and safety plan, visitors enjoyed Nicola Antonio Porpora's new production of Carlo il Calvo, an Opera in Concert performance of Gismondo, Rè di Polonia (Leonardo Vinci), and concerts by artists such as Delphine Galou, Joyce DiDonato, Romina Basso, Jordi Savall, and Vivica Genaux.
