Dimitra Antonaki graduated with distinction from the State School of Dance in Athens and continued her studies at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, Germany, supported by a scholarship from the Onassis Foundation.
She collaborated with numerous dance companies in Greece and performed in theater productions, including The Birds by Aristophanes at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus. She also worked with internationally renowned choreographers such as Tjiska Broesna, Norbert Steinwalz, Joachim Schloemer and Rodolpho Leoni in Germany, as well as Willi Dorner, John Todd, Seth Belliston and Lucinda Childs in Greece.
As a dancer she performed with the Greek National Opera in ballet, opera and operetta productions, and with the Armonia Atenea Orchestra in productions including Alessandro, West Side Story, and Kiss Me, Kate.
She participated in prestigious festivals and competitions, including the National Competition in Varna, UNICEF events in The Hague, the Greek Dance Festival and the Athens Epidaurus Festival, as well as international festivals in France, Cairo and Germany.
In 2015, she took part in Drops of Breath, the world’s first underwater performance, presented at Cape Sounion near Athens.
Alongside her performing career she choreographed theater and children’s productions, dance competitions and performances for the Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival. She also served as rehearsal director for Kiss Me, Kate and West Side Story with Armonia Atenea.
Since 2002 Dimitra Antonaki has been teaching classical and contemporary dance. In recent years she has worked primarily as a ballet instructor at professional dance schools. From 2002 to 2018 she was also a core member of Daniel Lommel’s Aenaon Dance Theater.
