Gala Vinci

Armonia Atenea| George Petrou

Saturday, September 11, 2021 | 19:30 h
Markgräfliches Opernhaus Bayreuth

Hardly any other composer shaped the Neapolitan opera in the eighteenth century as radically as Leonardo Vinci: friend of PIetro Metastasio, composer for Farinelli, and women’s darling! Leonardo Vinci embodied everything a star composer needed. With effervescent richness of invention he created heart-rending melodies and hair-raising virtuoso pieces. At the age of forty he was at the zenith of his career. His opera Artaserse at the Teatro delle Dame in Rome had just earned him the greatest triumph of his life, when he suddenly and quite unexpectedly died – reputedly  poisoned by a jealous husband. He lived and loved the way he composed: fiery, passionate and exciting to all the senses! A life for the opera!

The Argentinian star counter tenor Franco Fagioli is no less endowed with Latin fire. “When Fagioli’s name is on the sleeve you can buy a new CD without even seeing or sampling it,” thus the praise of Bavarian Radio – Bayerischer Rundfunk at the release of Fagioli’s latest album Veni, Vidi, Vinci, on which he presents his fans the most beautiful arias from Leonardo Vinci’s pen. And the audience at the Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival can thrill to unforgettable musical moments in the Vinci Gala as well, when Franco Fagioli, together with the Baroque formation Armonia Atenea under George Petrou, scales the vocal heights with his searingly emotional and brilliantly virtuosic coloratura explosions.
