Kacper Szelążek is one of the leading countertenors of his generation. In 2016, he successfully completed his vocal studies at the Chopin University of Music in Warsaw.
He made his debut in 2013 as Nerone in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea at the Collegium Nobilium in Warsaw. He also performed this role in 2015 at the Salle Franc-Martin in Geneva and in 2021 at the Polish Royal Opera in Warsaw. In 2016, he received the Carlo Maria Giulini Award at the International Moniuszko Vocal Competition in Warsaw.
Since then, he has performed at prestigious venues such as the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the Opéra de Versailles, the Opéra du Rhin in Strasbourg, the Amsterdam Opera, the Opéra de Dijon, the Teatro Ristori in Verona, the National Opera in Warsaw, the Stanisławowski Theatre in Warsaw, the Teatr Wielki in Poznań, the Boston Early Music Festival, the Enescu Festival in Bucharest, the Drottningholm Festival in Stockholm, the Łańcut Music Festival, the Ambronay Early Music Festival, and the Dramma per Musica Festival in Warsaw. He has also appeared at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Victoria Hall in Geneva, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the National Philharmonic in Warsaw, the Polish Radio Concert Hall in Warsaw, and NOSPR in Katowice.
His repertoire includes roles such as Nerone/Ottone/Valetto (L’incoronazione di Poppea), Nerone/Narciso (Agrippina), Bertarido (Rodelinda), the title role in Ariodante, Cesare/Tolomeo/Sesto (Giulio Cesare), Gilade in Vivaldi’s Farnace, the title role in Cavalli’s Eliogabaldo, Eunuco in Sacrati’s La finta pazza, Medoro in Steffani’s Orlando generoso, and Prasildo in Rossi’s Il palazzo incantato.
Kacper Szelążek has collaborated with renowned ensembles such as Les Talens Lyriques, Cappella Mediterranea, L’Arpeggiata, Ensemble Pygmalion, I Gemelli, Royal Baroque Ensemble, MACV, and Capella Regia Polona. He has performed under the baton of distinguished conductors including Christophe Rousset, Leonardo García-Alarcón, Paul Esswood, Lilianna Stawarz, Paul O’Dette, Stephen Stubbs, Luca Passerini, Francesco Corti, Krzysztof Garstka, Christina Pluhar, Raphaël Pichon, and Emiliano González Toro.
