As a singer Lenia Safiropoulou specializes in Lied and concert repertoire and in staged performances of art song. In her poetry, borrowing often themes from political and art history, she explores questions of power, individualism and social exclusion in the western world.
American Record Guide wrote about her album Sunless Loves, published by First Hand Records and featuring songs by Brahms, Prokofiev and Mussorgsky: “Lenia Safiropoulou has a strong mezzo-soprano that she uses with intelligence and skill. Her diction is excellent and her characterizations are vivid without caricature.”
She has collaborated with Philharmonia Orchestra, Welsh National Opera Orchestra, Royal Ballet Sinfonia, the State Orchestras of Athens and Thessaloniki, Armonia Atenea and Cyprus Symphony Orchestra. She has participated in opera productions and concerts of Greek National Opera, the Greek Festival and Megaron and the Athens Concert Hall. She has given recitals in London, Berlin, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Paris, Lyon, Barcelona, Nicosia and Athens. In 2009 she received the prize of the Greek Critics’ Union.
