Bayreuth Baroque 2026 opens with a thrilling rarity by Handel!

On September 4 Max Emanuel Cencic’s new production of Handel’s Floridante celebrated its premiere before an enthusiastic audience.

Floridante has always stood in the shadow of Handel’s great operatic classics such as Giulio Cesare, Rodelinda and Alcina. But with musical precision and dramatic verve, the ensemble led by singer and director Cencic proved that this gripping political and family thriller deserves a prominent place in Handel’s operatic oeuvre.

Following the successful opening, Floridante will receive five more performances, alongside outstanding concerts featuring leading stars of the international Baroque scene.
