Ukrainian bass Roman Chabaranok began his professional career at the Lviv National Opera & Ballet while still studying at the music academy there. During this time he performed the roles of Il Re (Aida) and Monterone (Rigoletto).
In 2019 he completed an internship at the Opera Studio of Polish National Opera, focusing on early music under the mentorship of Olga Pasichnyk. He also performed a wide range of chamber repertoire during the Warsaw Music Evenings, highlighting works by Polish composers such as Moniuszko and Szymanowski. In this same year, he won the First Prize in the men’s category at the Solomiya Krushelnytska International Vocal Competition and made his debut at the Lyon Festival, performing the role of Monterone under the baton of Michele Spotti. In 2020 he returned to the Opéra national de Lyon as Bonze in Stravinsky’s Le Rossignol, conducted by Daniele Rustioni. In 2025 he became a finalist at the Moniuszko International Vocal Competition.
In 2021 he joined the Opera Studio of Bayerische Staatsoper under the guidance of Tobias Truniger. Since then he has appeared in numerous roles on the main stage, collaborating with world-renowned conductors including Vladimir Jurowski, Daniele Rustioni, François-Xavier Roth, Andrea Battistoni and Sebastian Weigle.
Since 2023 he has been a member of the ensemble of the Bayerische Staatsoper, where he performed as Montano in Verdi’s Otello, 2. SS-Mann in Weinberg’s Die Passagierin, 2. Gralsritter (Parsifal), Un Frate (Don Carlo) under Zubin Mehta, Policeman/Gentleman/Porter Placing Advertisements in Shostakovich’s The Nose, Angelotti (Tosca) and Happy (La fanciulla del West).
In the 2024/25 season, in Munich, Roman Chabaranok sang Shabernak in Ligeti’s Le Grand Macabre, 2. Geharnischter (Die Zauberflöte), Zuniga (Carmen), Gubetta (Lucrezia Borgia), Tom (Un ballo in maschera), Bonzo (Madama Butterfly), Narumov (Pique Dame) und Moser (I masnadieri).
Highlights of the 2025/26 season include the roles of Gran Sacerdote (Nabucco), 5. Jude (Salome), Conte Ceprano (Rigoletto), Angelotti, Antonio (Le nozze di Figaro) and Zuniga at the Bayerische Staatsoper.
Among his next commitments he will make his debut at the Polish National Opera as Monterone.
