About the festival of baroque Opera Seria

The Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival has quickly become the renowned event dedicated to the performance of baroque operas. Behind the Bayreuth Baroque Festival is a dedicated team of opera lovers and music experts who have made it their mission to make the splendour and beauty of baroque opera accessible to a wide audience. Every year, the Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival attracts internationally recognised artists and ensembles to Bayreuth, who perform in historic venues such as the Margravial Opera House. Close collaboration with renowned musicians and conductors as well as support from local and international partners make the festival an unrivalled experience. The Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival stands for the highest artistic quality and offers a platform for the rediscovery and performance of rarely performed baroque works.

 

Who is Bayreuth Baroque

The artistic director is the countertenor, director and producer Max Emanuel Cencic. Creative Producer is Georg Lang, Managing Director is Dr Clemens Lukas.

Max Emanuel Cencic

Max Emanuel Cencic is one of the world’s most fascinating and diverse artists committed to the rediscovery and performance of 18th century music. He has been performing since 1982 and sings regularly at opera houses such as the Vienna State Opera, Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin, Opera de Paris, Teatro Real and many more. In 2023 he had his La Scala di Milano debut. Max celebrated his 40th stage anniversary in 2022, is a countertenor, director, agency owner, producer and since 2020 Artistic Director of the Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival.

Executive Director

Clemens Lukas

Dr. Clemens Lukas studied economics in Bayreuth, Perpignan and Bloomington and earned his doctorate in organisational psychology at the TU Berlin. Within the framework of his agency KulturPartner, he has founded and built up several festivals and advised cultural regions on restructuring. Since 2020, he has been the founding executive director of Bayreuth Baroque.

Creative Producer

Georg Lang

Georg Lang’s career took him to Baden near Vienna after studying business informatics at the University of Vienna and Vienna University of Technology, where he worked as racing secretary at the Badener Trabrennverein from 1988 and was managing director of the Sommertrabrennbahn from 1999 to 2004. From 2003 to 2007 he served on the management board of Magna Racino as general secretary. He founded the agency PARNASSUS ARTS PRODUCTIONS in 1999. The agency focuses on artist management, baroque opera productions, concert projects and CD productions. Since 2020, Georg Lang has been working as artistic director of Bayreuth Baroque.
