The lyric tenor Valerio Contaldo was born in Italy and grew up in Switzerland. After training as a classical guitarist at the Conservatory of Sion and the École normale de musique de Paris, he studied singing at the Lausanne Conservatory. In 2008, he was a finalist at the Bach Competition in Leipzig. More recently, he has enjoyed success in the title role of Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo, performing in Barcelona, Beijing, Paris, and São Paulo. In the 2024/25 season, he made his debut as Tristan in Frank Martin’s Le vin herbé and appeared in Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria as well as Orfeo. In the 2023/24 season, he made his debut at La Scala in Milan.
Valerio Contaldo has collaborated with renowned conductors and has performed at prestigious venues such as the Paris Opéra, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, and Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. His discography includes recordings of L’Orfeo and Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria as well as Bach’s Mass in B minor.
