Bayreuth Baroque 2021 from 1-14 September
In 2020, Bayreuth Baroque was one of the few festivals in Europe that was able to realise its programme as announced – against all odds of the Corona pandemic. And this year, too, the festival presents jewels of baroque opera at the UNESCO World Heritage Site Margravial Opera House from 01 – 14 September.
As a first highlight of this year’s edition, Nicola Porpora’s opera “Carlo il Calvo” will return with performances on 1, 3 and 5 September. With Julia Lezhneva, Franco Fagioli, Max Emanuel Cencic and Bruno de Sá, the world-class cast of the previous year could be engaged again. The opera rediscovery in Max Emanuel Cencic’s production was acclaimed throughout Europe last year and was recently voted “Best New Production of 2020” by the readers of the French online magazine ForumOpéra.
Bayreuth Baroque took place for the first time in the Corona Year 2020. In each case, 200 spectators were able to experience the performances live and on site. In addition, countless viewers worldwide were reached through the Festival’s online edition, Bayerischer Rundfunk and Mezzo TV.
In March, the Festival’s Artistic Director Max Emanuel Cencic was awarded the Honorary Prize of the German Record Critics for his artistic work. The presentation of this award and the laudation will take place during the 2021 Festival.
The complete Festival programme and the start of ticket sales for Bayreuth Baroque 2021 will be announced here by May.
