Bayreuth Baroque 2026
You can view the programme presentation for our 2026 season at Birken Castle on 5 December here.
In 2026, the Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival will once again showcase baroque opera at the highest artistic level. With a staged opera production and exquisite concerts in exceptional venues – complemented by artist talks, elegant gala dinners, and brunch events – the festival once more invites audiences to immerse themselves in the fascinating and multifaceted world of musical Baroque.
Under the artistic direction of the internationally acclaimed countertenor, director, and cultural manager, Max Emanuel Cencic, the Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival opened its doors for the first time in September 2020. Since then, Bayreuth Baroque has established itself as an award-winning fixture in Baroque music.
The festival now offers two staged opera productions with top-class casts at the Margravial Opera House every year and numerous concerts featuring star singers from the contemporary Baroque scene.
The theater, originally opened in 1748, added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2012, and reopened in 2018 after a restoration in line with monument preservation standards, brings to life rarely performed masterpieces from its time. By staging Baroque opere serie in their original setting, one of the most beautiful opera houses in the world is awakened from its museum-like slumber, making its era sensually come alive again.
