The Italian countertenor Nicolò Balducci was born in 1999. He has already received numerous awards, including the 1st Prize and the Young Artist Award at the Renata Tebaldi Competition 2022, the 3rd Prize and the Young Artist Award at the Cesti Competition 2022 in Innsbruck, and the 1st Prize at the Concorso Niccolò Piccinni 2021.
Highlights of the 2024/25 season include his debut at the Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival as Ulisses in Porpora’s Ifigenia in Aulide and as Arbate in Mozart’s Mitridate at the Opéra de Lausanne and the Opéra de Montpellier. On the concert stage, he performed in Leonardo Vinci’s Oratorio per la Madonna del Rosario at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg and in Handel’s Messiah and Sosarme, re di Media in Versailles. He also sang the role of Arioco in Favetti’s Il dialogo di Nabucco on tour in France, which included a CD recording, as well as Nerone in L’incoronazione di Poppea in France and Canada – both with Cappella Mediterranea under Leonardo García-Alarcón. As Barzane in Vivaldi’s Arsilda with La Cetra under Andrea Marcon, he performed in concerts in Amsterdam, Santander, and Madrid; a recording of this was released in January 2025.
Engagements for the 2023/24 season included Gilbert in Zingarelli’s Giulietta e Romeo, Imeneo in Vivaldi’s Gloria e Imeneo, and Nerone in concert performances of Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea and Handel’s Messiah, all at the Château de Versailles. He appeared as Lucio Cinna in Mozart’s Lucio Silla at the Landestheater Salzburg, as Nerone at the Oper Köln and the Opéra de Toulon, and in Ristori’s Pigmalione at the Teatro Sociale di Rovigo.
Further past engagements include Nerone at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia, Osmino in Vivaldi’s La fida ninfa at the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music, Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro) at the Teatro Comunale di Ferrara, and a series of concerts across Sweden with Dan Laurin and Anna Paradiso, including at the Stockholm Early Music Festival.
